Raydio Featuring Arnell Carmichael

Arnell Carmichael

Founding Member

Arnell is playing guitar and singing those noteworthy high notes for Raydio.  Arnell is an original and founding member of the band Raydio. His father Mike Hanks is the founder of Northern Soul Movement & the Motown rival record label, D-Town Record’s. Arnell started touring the nation at age 10 with his family band the Carmichael Movement. Carmichael joined Raydio in 1977 and would go on to enjoy the success of 4 Gold Records during the time frame of 1978 through 1982 including a platinum record for his contributions. Arnell would go on to receive accolades for what some consider his biggest success contributing vocals with Raydio member Ray Parker Jr., on the Grammy Winning Song Ghostbusters. After Ghostbusters, Carmichael went on a hiatus from the music business becoming successful in I.T. during the Tech Boom of the late 80s and early 90s. In the early 2000’s Carmichael got back into music touring, playing guitar and singing with the Blackbyrds Feat Allen Barnes. As a result of renewed interest in the band Raydio because of the documentary that aired on television, Carmichael decided to reactivate Raydio.


Giovanni Rogers 

Lead Vocals

Giovanni Rogers is singing lead vocals for Giovanni comes from a strong musical background. He is distant cousins of Harold Melvin of the Blue Notes, Otis Redding and Niles Rodgers of Chic. He was inspired by music at an early age by many musical members of his family. Giovanni has performed and toured with Raydio as Co-lead singer since 2014. He enjoys entertaining the crowds which you see when on stage. He is getting increasingly well known for his vocals, one of a kind dance moves and joyous personality.


Lavon McPherson 

Bass & Background Vocals

Lavon Started toured nationally in his 20’s with Gospel artist Dr. E LaQuint Weaver while collectively receiving awards for their work together. Soon afterwards he began touring the world with The Contours & Ollie Woodson’s Temptations. His main bass influences are Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten. He calls being in Raydio a “dream comes true” as he grew up a fan of the band. He started touring with Raydio in 2017 and became a official member in 2021


Chris Thomas 

Drummer & Background Vocals

Chris Thomas was born into the Church with his pastor Grandfather. He started drumming in the Church at the age of eight. This would lead him to touring around the country playing in different churches. His major drum influences are Dennis Chambers & Chris Coleman. Thomas got his first break with a popular regional act called the Project Band that featured May May Bell, a famed singer in Michigan. He got the call to audition for Raydio through his Uncle who was a Dramatics & Enchantment backing Singer. The rest as they say is history. Chris has been a part of touring with Raydio in 2015. He became an official member of Raydio in 2021. He has previously toured with DeBarge, Carl Carlton & The Temptations.
